So Matthew’s Coming to Visit…

His timing is highly inconvenient for a host of reasons I’ll not get into. Besides, who am I to argue with the Most High about interrupting my weekend plans?

Nevertheless this has been a good opportunity for a shift in science and geography. We homeschoolers will take a break in the routine wherever we can get it:

The girls have actually been working on this since well before Matthew came knocking:

Don’t worry. We have far more supplies on hand than will fit into that little box. This is just so the kids can feel useful. Notice that their idea of canned food preparation is Jif.

Last night I figured I’d better check our radio to make sure it works. When was the last time any of you used a battery powered radio?  Lo and behold, it was dead. The smugness I felt about not being out there with the rest of the rubes dissipated when I had to go out this morning and buy a radio. The retailers are raking it in today. It’s nuts out there.

For those of you along the Southeast coast, stay safe and hopefully I’ll catch you all on the other side.

        A lot of them have solar panels as well as a battery compartment along with the hand crank. Also get some good rechargeable batteries and keep them charged.

        Here’s hoping it’s not too much of an event!

        I wasn’t taking it very seriously at first, but Matthew keeps scooting closer and closer with every update.

        You know, like those people who don’t get the hint when you keep trying to enforce your personal space bubble needs? That’s Matthew.

      When the power was still on this morning I thought, “Cook a hot breakfast while I can!”

      So I did. Grits for the family (sweet potatoes for me), sausage, eggs over medium, fruit, and biscuits made with Bobs Red Mill all purpose GF flour. Verdict was that the biscuits didn’t taste GF. They should’ve. That flour was NOT a frugal purchase.

      Power still on.

    Stay safe, y’all. And come to think of it, peanut butter in a plastic bottle isn’t that bad of an idea. It doesn’t rot, doesn’t break, doesn’t need to be cooked, and has a ton of nutrients in a form that littles love.

    Doesn’t work so well up here for a “car stuck in snow” kit, though, because people will tend to eat it before the storm comes. My dad always had sardines in his car because he knew he wouldn’t eat them until he totally needed to. He’d put them in the car when he got it and take them out when he traded them in, except for one time when my brother and I wanted to try them.

    One time. :^)
