This is my first and last rabbit trail post on anything concerning the 2016 election. However, given that I have three books on modesty in the queue, this latest Trump debacle has my wheels turning.This is actually a rehash of a comment I left elsewhere, with additional commentary.
The whole “Donald Trump is a misogynist!” thing is reaching a fever pitch now. Unnamed people are clamoring for the studio which produces the reality show The Apprentice to release any offensive outtake tapes they might have. I can’t figure out why this is being treated as if it is some kind of legal issue. Whatever I think about the things Trump said, no laws have been broken here. He still has a right of free speech.
As for “locker room talk”, my husband says he hasn’t engaged in a conversation of that nature in over two decades. He’s 43 years old. Trump was in his 60’s sounding like a randy juvenile. I’m not buying that “all men” talk this way even as I completely am completely unperturbed by any of what was said. If anyone should be offended here, it’s Melania. The ink was barely dry on their marriage license and here he was going on about screwing other women. Talk about a short honeymoon phase! As for the electorate writ large, why all the pearl clutching about a crude man with a history of womanizing saying crude things about women?
How hypocritical is it that the party of free love, female sex positivism and slut walks is now concerned about the dignity of women and girls? More than that, people are taking this nonsense seriously!
Heather MacDonald can get her grubby politics off my high heels and red lipstick thankyouverymuch, but besides that, she makes some excellent points here. Even if this sinks Trump, for those who don’t believe he’s a Clinton shill to begin with, we still end up with a disgusting old horn dog in the White House either way. That’s my take on the Trump tape scandal. A big ol’ yawn.
Side bar: We listen to local news for about an hour every morning at our house. All the campaign ads being run on air by Democrat candidates center 100% around the “facts” that GOP candidates are “anti-woman”, “Anti-choice”, and one chick is even running an ad that her GOP opponent “says marital rape should be legal”. Mind you, these ads were running before this latest confirmation of Trump crudeness surfaced.
Leaves me wondering what to make of all this. The entire Dem strategy is based around appealing to women, their sense of dignity and desire for power and acknowledgement of their “worth”. For example:
Now just you watch. Even after Hillary gets in there, we’ll still be hearing ad nauseum about the “oppression of women”. Hillary is to women what Obama is to blacks what George W. was to Christians. They poach them for votes but deliver zero goods.
For those of you who think women “have it made” in 2016 America, I beg to differ. No matter how many degrees we acquire, jobs we get or glass ceilings we shatter, a system which makes landing a good man to build a family with a Herculean task with low levels of success has failed its women right along with its men.

Amen. One of the most pathetic things here is various religious and political conservatives scurrying away from Drumpf as if it had been previously unknowable that he is a horny teenager with wrinkles. You just want to ask them whether it’s nice on their planet, and what color the sun is there. Obviously they’ve not read, or understood, the newspapers in a few….decades.
And on my planet, I’m among those who wonder if Drumpf is a Clinton dirty trick that will make Watergate seem mild in comparison.

The farther we travel down this rabbit hole, the more surprised I am that more people aren’t offering this up as a theory.
It doesn’t sound all that far fetched to me. I guess I am a tin foil hatter now, LOL.

I won’t be surprised if that turns out to be true. I have a lot of suppositions, and most of them are dark. Very dark.
And what do you think will happen if Trump does win, in the streets of our country come November 12th? What do you think will happen if Hillary wins, probably a bit later – conservatives move more slowly in these things?

I am wary no matter who wins, Hearth. But I try to banish my suppositions, as mine are dark as well. I can’t shake from my mind the notion that this whole game has been rigged from the get go and that Trump is in on it.
Not only did they attend Chelsea’s wedding, if I recall correctly, Hillary attended Trump’s wedding. Trump says in response to his gaffe, “Bill has said worse to me on the golf course.”
No one finds this strange or unsettling? I know pols have a history of fighting it out and then having a drink together later on. I get all that, but…something about this whole thing just doesn’t set well with me. Stinks to high heaven.
That so many very smart people are buying the ruse baffles me, frankly. What happens to the true Believers if Hillary wins? Nothing right away, I suspect. Although I do think those of us without teaching licenses are going to find ourselves in for a long row to hoe on the homeschool front if she gets a second term.
She doesn’t seem as enthusiastic about LGBTQ as our current leader, but the church better watch out nonetheless.
There are lots of other things I don’t even want to let myself think about too much. The man agrees with me on that: ‘Stop borrowing trouble over things you can’t do anything about.”

Puppies. When I think – or look ahead, observing patterns – I start to mourn. My reaction is to bend at the waist and keen from the destruction that has been and will be.
It’s **hard** not to keep your eyes open now, **hard** to keep your eyes on the things which you can affect – especially as we understand that some of this stuff is going to flow downstream and land in our laps. “What should I be doing? How should I live? What choices should I make?” How can I POSSIBLY game this system so that me and mine … well, not win, ’cause there ain’t no winning this game, but maybe not lose the house?
I know you’ve heard me say this before, because this is something that has been rolling for a while, and has just picked up steam until I’m gobsmacked … but ultimately, it ends with, “Be still, and know that I am God”.
This here life, we’re living in the curse of “interesting times”.
But I can’t do anything about any of that, so I’m gonna think about puppies instead. Too much stuff in my life I can’t fix that’s been bothering me, tbh.
I figure getting riled up and spending time with God to calm down and re-center is going to be a cycle for a while. Not that that’s a good thing, but it’s true.

Tin foil? Nah. It’s just that the Trumps and the Clintons have been friends for over two decades, have shared many of the same policies, invited “The Donald” to Chelsea’s wedding, flew together out to “pedophile island”, and Drumpf actually talked with Bubba before filing candidacy. Plus, Drumpf’s positions are all more or less simplistic caricatures of conservatism that make conservatives look bad.
Dunno if they’ll ever find a paper trail, but if they do, it might even persuade Democrats to throw Hilliary out of 1600 Pennsylvania.

Two thumbs up on the post. Most people (politicians included) have said worse things about the opposite sex in private. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. In addition, the gist of his comment (that beautiful women throw themselves at powerful men) is true.

This is really the crux of the matter as it relates to Trump’s attempt to get the NYT to retract its sexual assault article. Part of their response to his lawyer:
The essence of a libel claim, of course, is the protection of one’s reputation. Mr. Trump has bragged about his non-consensual sexual touching of women. He has bragged about intruding on beauty pageant contestants in their dressing rooms. He acquiesced to a radio host’s request to discuss Mr. Trump’s own daughter as a “piece of ass.” Multiple women not mentioned in our article have publicly come forward to report on Mr. Trump’s unwanted advances. Nothing in our article has had the slightest effect on the reputation that Mr. Trump, through his own words and actions, has already created for himself.
My husband and I were JUST discussing this very thing earlier today, that Trump said from his own mouth that he kisses women without warning or permission and gropes them- because he can. Now whether or not these things rise to the level of sexual assault is certainly open to debate. But given that we’re at the point where college men need to get signed consent to protect themselves before an encounter lest missy regrets it later…

you would think the media are 90% liberal or something. :^) Seriously, the media can’t even report the sexual misconduct stories fairly–it’s not as if Bill’s time on the Lolita Express, and his wife’s acceptance of it, should be no news.

The only thing I will say is that He said if a woman is being sexually harrassed at work, she should just find another job. How do you think things are going this week for women being sexually harrassed at work? I have been on two occassions and do not work for either company now but just think about what power his words have and how we feel about that.

The biggest farce surrounding American political theater is the wholesale convincing of some -less than sharp- people that their daily lives are going to be impacted in some significant way by who wins.
But heck, I am actually dim enough to have hope that the 36% increase in our 2017 health insurance premiums might go down sometime in the next 2 years.

OK, first of all, I don’t believe Jesus ever said that, and that’s usually what’s meant by a capitalized “He”. If you’re referring to Mr. Drumpf, please stop with the blasphemy. Drumpf is not God.
Regarding the issue of sexual harassment, I seem to remember that it wasn’t the Drumpfs who paid close to a million bucks to make a sexual harassment lawsuit go away. It was the Clintons, specifically to Paula Jones. it also wasn’t the Drumpfs who have been credibly accused of rape.
So to answer your question in the way I’m guessing you meant it, I would dare say that things are better for the sexually harassed than they were when it was assumed that the head of Bill Clinton’s bimbo eruptions team was going to be President.
Sorry, but I remember the 1990s well. You want to talk about people aiding and abetting sexual harassers, you need to talk about Democrats. Teddy Kennedy, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden (ahem, and recently, too), Barney Frank, Gerry Studds, and a bunch of others.
