Natural beauty that is. There are few places more pleasant in winter than south South Florida, which is why it’s a favorite destination for my husband and me for our anniversary getaways in February. I thought I’d share a few snapshots. Because we always go to a different beach town each time, I know you haven’t seen these before. Enjoy!
Hope this amateur photo exhibition adds some sunshine to the beginning of your week.
Happy Monday!
Great pics; thanks for sharing, Elspeth! 🙂
I especially enjoy seeing the ibis (the scarlet ibis is a prolific bird in my mom’s country) and the iguana (even if it’s an invasive species there). 🙂

This quote from your article kind of encapsulates the sentiment regarding these reptiles:
But they do need to be controlled.

I see.
I presume you also have other local, non-invasive, smaller reptiles besides the obvious much larger alligators in Florida; I know in the Caribbean, iguanas and other small reptiles are fairly prolific; one sees them scurrying across the road, scampering up trees, etc., in Trinidad and Tobago.

Recently, a peacock showed up in our yard. All of our friends who live in a nearby area where the peacocks have completely taken over and become a major nuisance said, “Oh no! You don’t want those in your neighborhood. They are a real pain.”
One friend said, “Kill it, eat it, and send me the feathers. But don’t get comfortable with it and don’t feed it.” LOL.

Ah, peacocks! The most vain bird out there. 🙂
Probably also tastes like chicken. 😉

Thanks, Will!
The iguanas are invasive, but the people of S. FL have completely adapted to their presence and after so many years and so such prolific reproducing, have embraced them as a part of the landscape.

Ah, good. Figures the media shriek about a non-problem as if it were one (when it suits them).

Oh, I bet it tastes just like chicken!
(the chili verde I made last weekend would cover up off flavors….just hot enough to burn one’s lips a touch, but didn’t have fire all the way down….)

Alligator tastes like chicken, so iguana oughta, too! 😉
(Seriously, every weird meat I’ve eaten, from frog’s legs to bull’s balls, has tasted like chicken.)

I like to think it’s a joke of God’s, to make all weird stuff taste like chicken. 😉

Good friend of mine was engaged to a British gal, and when she was visiting him in Colorado, he had to explain when she asked innocently:
“Where in the Rocky Mountains do they get oysters?”
Of course a large portion of the restaurant heard.

Ha!
I hope he said it to her in British:
Bullocks’ bollocks! 😉
